Loosely Woven presents 'Never Forget You'

Loosely Woven is a community based group of people who put together and perform three brand new shows each year. 'Never Forget You' is the second of these for 2013 with 23 instrumentalists and singers.

'Never Forget You' is dedicated to the memory of Denis Kevans (1939-2005), Australia's 'Poet Lorikeet' and will feature the glorious voice of Denis's musical partner, Sonia Bennett. The concert's title comes from the opening song based on Denis's powerful poem about the empty promises made to the people of East Timor by the Australian authorities after the 2nd World War.

The program features a number of original songs by Sonia Bennett and Denis Kevans including: Lock the gates', Sonia's protest against the environmentally devasting practice of coal-seam mining, 'Duck Shooting Season', Denis's hilarious but topical take on 'hunters', 'Bogong Ranges' Billie Wye's beautiful homage to a particularly wonderful part of Australia's bushland set to music by Sonia Sonia's setting of Henry Lawson's poem 'Flour Bin'

Also performing in this concert for the first time for a while is Ian Hamilton who will be singing two of his own songs - one his setting of Henry Lawson's poem 'Ned Kelly's Smiling Eyes' which refers to the painting made of Ned shortly before his execution. The other, 'Amy's Song', he wrote for his granddaughter.

Other songs include: Kevin Murray's 'Our Dying Reef' which laments the fate of our Great Barrier Reef, Roy Oribison's 'Crying', 'Sisters' - the fun duet from 'White Christmas', the rock 'n roll classic 'Boppin' the Blues' and the magnificent 'O Happy Day' (made famous in 'Sister Act').

Instruments this time will include flutes, harp, clarinets, saxophones, trumpet, recorders, violin, viola, glockenspiel, guitars, mandolin, concertinas, accordion, keyboard and percussion. As usual, Loosely Woven will be performing acoustically - no PA system.

Owing to limited seating, bookings strongly recommended for the performances at Humph Hall. Bookings, however, are not necessary for the other venues. But don't be late - Loosely Woven concerts always start on time! :-)
