Ishbel MacAskill, traditional Gaelic singer from the island of Lewis in the Scottish Hebrides, will give two concerts in Sydney this coming weekend (June 3rd and 4th).

Ishbel, a frequent feature artist at festivals throughout Europe, Britain and North America, is on her first visit to Australia, as the guest of the Australian Gaelic Singers. She has just returned to Sydney from appearances in Canberra, where she gave a traditional song masterclass at the School of Music at the Australian National University, and then received a standing ovation at her Sunday evening concert at The Merry Muse.

Ishbel will give two concerts in Sydney:

Saturday June 3rd, at the Eastside Arts Centre, Oxford St Paddington, at 8 pm (with Jan Cachia live on the celtic harp from 7:30 pm); tickets are $22 and $17;

Sunday June 4th at Thornleigh Community Centre, Phyllis Avenue Thornleigh, at 2 pm (with Jan Cachia live on the celtic harp from 1:30 pm); tickets are $20 and $15.

Ishbel will be supported by the Australian Gaelic Singers, Sam Young (of the NSW Police Pipe Band) on the pipes, Jan Cachia on clĂ rsach (celtic harp), and Bran MacEachaidh in traditional Gaelic storytelling.
