The Shack presents a remarkable line up of live acoustic music, with a variety of artists on the first Saturday of each month. It is pleasantly laid out cabaret style in a candle lit atmosphere. The music is gently amplified with three main artists each month and one or two pre-booked floor spots. Complimentary tea and coffee is available and feel free to bring your own drinks and nibbles.
Guest artists this month include:
- Nigel Wearne - is a country and folk singer-songwriter whose music has an intimate and poignant narrative. Equipped with personally handcrafted guitars, his music melds finger-style guitar, honky tonk, country twang and honest storytelling. With a hint of Hank Williams and influences including Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Bob Dylan and the spirit of Woody Guthrie, Nigel tells stories of mischievous bank robbers, wandering poets and his love of eggs. Nigel has performed at various music festivals throughout Australia, most recently including the 2012 Port Fairy Folk Festival, 2012 Gulgong Folk Festival and 2011 Tablelands Folk Festival. With frayed poetic edges and honest grit, Nigel ‘Wearne is capturing audiences across the country’ (Beat Magazine).
- SNEZ - Multi-award winning artist and fresh new talent, SNEZ has never been afraid to put her heart on her sleeve. After receiving wide praise for her debut album ‘Gypsy soul’ (2009), Snez has spent the last two years touring Australia with her co-writer, producer and guitarist; Stewart Peters, squeezing their world into a van for months at a time, visiting remote and regional Australia, sharing stories and songs ... and loving every minute of it! Snez’s latest album release is named '8 Lives Left to Lose'.
- Grimick - A local, honest, acoustic, folk-rock style, Grimick are an energetic group of singer/song-writers who never stray far from the essential ingredients - great rhythm, a contagious melody, and something to say. Vocally, Grimick will impress. Add to this, captivating guitar, earthy percussive rhythms and arrangements on conga, ukulele and piano.
Coffee and tea is available but BYO refreshments and nibblies.
The Shack is held on the first Saturday of every month. There's a cover charge of $20 (or $15 for members, students and pensioners) to cover costs.
The Shack is a non profit organisation – all proceeds go toward the promotion and presentation of original, contemporary and traditional 21st century folk music.
