You are invited to an afternoon of humour & musical brilliance!
Stephen Taberner, from Melbourne, Australia and notorious as the arch-conspirator behind the Spooky Men's Chorale, takes to the stage with his beloved double bass "Beatrice" to titillate your ears with a sly array of quirky, funky and melancholic songs exploring, amongst other things, teenage angst, the secret life of peaches, and how the hell Jim manages to mow all those lawns. Stephen was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, where early musical damage was inflicted in church. Subsequent to that he's been a film composer, theatre musician, choirleader, world music afficionado, and bathroom harmonic junkie, as well as a wry observer of the human condition, and he brings as much of this as is humanly possible to a musical dreamland that you'd be strangely compelled to fall into with him.
Kirsty Bromley is a young contemporary folk singer based in Sheffield who draws upon a wide range of traditional music. She has a most disarmingly transparent voice, but also the uncanny and beautiful knack of drawing attention to the song rather than the messenger, by the manner in which she employs it. She has performed at a number of folk festivals in the UK and abroad and is currently recording her debut album, which features original songs as well as carefully curated folk gems.
