Duke's Place - Australian Songs in Concert & session with Warren Fahey
8pm, Friday 10th March 2017

Posted Monday, January 2, 2017

Warren started performing in the mid 1960s and has never stopped. As a cultural historian he uses songs and storytelling to bring history to life. He has a unique repertoire of bush songs, early ballads, city ditties & associated folklore including poetry, drinking toasts & parodies.

As a young lad he regularly attended the BMC Singabout nights.

His group, The Larrikins, founded in 1969, helped redefine Australian folk music. He has written thirty books and recorded numerous recordings and radio programs.

In recent years he has added ‘actor’ and ‘playwright’ to his C.V. with the highly successful ‘’Dead Men Talking’ where he played Banjo Paterson alongside Max Cullen’s Henry Lawson. This year they are launching Dead Men Laughing where Warren plays Roy ‘Mo’ Rene alongside Max’s Lennie Lower.

Duke's place, named after our honoured early member Harold 'Duke' Tritton (1886-1965), is the place to go once a month for a great night of Australian songs in concert and session. Duke was a powerful singer who supplied BMC with many songs he had learnt in his younger days while working as a shearer and at other bush jobs. He was also a songwriter and poet giving us songs that have entered the tradition such as Sandy Hollow Line and Shearing in the Bar.
