Piaf: A Passionate Life
7pm, Saturday 23rd March 2013

A celebration of the 50th anniversary of Edith Piaf's death . . .

The incomparable Dahlia Dior performs famous and not-so-famous Piaf songs together with biographical excerpts.

Dahlia Dior as Piaf

Dahlia will be accompanied by three of the finest musicians in town:

• Marcello Maio (accordion and piano)
• Daniel Weltlinger (violin)
• John Maddox (bass).

Check out these YouTube clips from 'A Passionate Life'. Visit Dahlia's web site.

What the critics say:

"It’s as if that little bird has confided a few secrets. Dior’s fragrant recreation of the mood and disposition of France’s ‘national popular singer’ is spellbinding . . . Dahlia is a consummate performer; an astonishing singer, with a commanding theatrical presence. This show alone is one which should be seen in Paris and all over the world." (Showbiz critic Brad Syke)

“I mentioned passion. That’s the quality along with a superb vocal instrument that Dior brings to her performance at its best . . . The voice can rock rafters and she can hold a note without a trace of tremolo for what seems a small eternity - big lungs, great control, perfect technique. When she sings Piaf numbers she eschews the trap many others have fallen into of trying to imitate that tiny, unique waif. The result is Piaf á la Dior, with authentic Gallic style, still richly French, and equally seductive but on a larger scale.” (Showbiz critic Peter Morrison)
