Sing Cockatoo

Cockatoo Island

How did you spend your weekend?

… on an island … right in the middle of Sydney Harbour?
… making music with old friends and new?
… steeped in Sydney’s history?

If you want to answer “YES”, join us for the second “Sing Cockatoo” weekend.

Sing Cockatoo 2011 is a weekend of singing workshops, a Saturday evening singing session and other musical activities, culminating in a performance on Sunday afternoon. There will be lots of opportunity to explore the Island and find out more about its fascinating history. Musical Director Christina Mimmocchi will be ably assisted by Christine Wheeler and Rob Maxwell-Jones … and a surprise guest or two.

Camping is available for the full Cockatoo experience. Families are welcome. Bring your own tent or rent one in “Tent City”. For those who prefer to return to the mainland to sleep, transport will be available on Saturday evening.

We can promise you lots of fun and heaps of singing in a unique, World Heritage environment. Check out the website for a taste of Sing Cockatoo 2010.

The people of Cockatoo Island’s history include bushrangers and convicts, urchin boys and wayward girls, shipbuilders and seamen, artists and artisans, sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. There’s a place for you!!

This initiative has been realized through places + spaces, has received seed funding from the Australia Council and is supported by the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust. In conjunction with Cockatoo Calling creative development residencies.
