Port Fairy is an old sea-side fishing and farming village looking out to the Southern Ocean waves rolling along the south-west coast of the state of Victoria. It was along this south coast of Australia that ships sailed in the early years of immigration. Many were wrecked on the rocks.
Every March the people of Port Fairy host Australia's "world famous" Port Fairy Folk Festival.
The festival presents the of best International and National artists over the four days of folk, blues, jazz, bluegrass, celtic, country, jazz, rock, contemporary and other world roots music; a Children's Folk Circus and the Free Festival of the Streets.
First class performances are presented on five large and five smaller stages in The Arena and at 12 more venues throughout the town plus market stalls, buskers and street events.
With over 100 acts and more around 500 artists the festival is a vibrant and exciting cultural celebration which magically transforms the fishing village evoking tradition but looking to the future.
It began in 1977 and has received Victoria and Australian Tourism Awards earning entry to the Australian Tourism Hall of Fame in 1995.
The next festival will be held 10th-13th March, 2006. Visit our web site for more information.
