Ryebuck dance follows successful display
7.30-11.30pm Saturday 9th June 2007

Ryebuck Bush Band will play at East Gosford next Saturday, June 9, for the Central Coast's regular Second Saturday Bush Dance.

The evening starts at 7.30pm and will end at 11.30pm. Dancers' dance for the night will be Levi Jackson Rag, which will be taught after it is danced by the more experienced dancers.

Dance display

The dance is the first since a group of regular Central Coast dancers agreed to put on a display at the concert by Collector organised by the Troubadour folk club at the Woy Woy Peninsula Theatre on May 19.

The dancers involved were Alan Scott, Angus McGregor, Anne Maree Turner, Jenni Collins, Jill Neville, Laura Willows, Lyn Baggs, Ron Sleeman, Sandra Hanson, Xin Wu, and Mark Snell.

Most of these people had not been part of a dance display before, and their 20-minute performance was enthusiastically received by the audience.

Michael Rogers unfortunately had to pull out at the last minute. His mother had fallen and broken her arm, and needed his care and attention.

Free dance practice

Michael teaches bush dance music to a small band of musicians at the East Gosford hall on a Saturday afternoon. In the lead-up to the display, Michael generously offered their services for a dance practice. Michael and his musicians were so inspired by the experience that they are now offering a dance practice session between 2pm and 4pm on the afternoon of our next dance, June 9.

Dancers (and Michael's musicians) will be able to practice the same dances that were displayed at Peninsula Theatre: Pride of Erin, Circassian Circle Pt 2, Thady You Gander, Galop Quadrille and Posties Jig. The session will be free to members and to pre-paid ticket holders (you will be able to buy your ticket for the evening's dance on the afternoon).

Membership

Membership of the Central Coast Bush Dance and Music Association falls due at the end of June. A $15 membership entitles a member to a $10 entry price, instead of our normal price of $15, for each of 12 dances over the next year.

The association has decided to have a dance in January next year, for Australia Day, as well as our regular dances in the other months.

Membership application forms will be available at the door.

Subscription

This year, the association is offering subscriptions for the first time. By subscribing to the association, you pre-pay your membership and admission to the dances for the year ahead.

Benefits to the subscriber include the convenience of entry by your subscription card, extra savings on top of membership entry prices, and free tickets to give away to people who have not attended the dance before. Your subscription also supports the association, by allowing us to plan and budget for the year ahead.

Two for the price of one

Another initiative being introduced for the new financial year is a "two-for-one" ticket offer. This allows two people into the dance for the price of one ($15), providing one of the two has not been to the dance before.

Only five of these tickets will be available for each dance. They may be pre-purchased and will be available for our next dance on June 9. So get in early!
