Newcastle folkie, John Day, died in Durham, UK last weekend of a heart attack. He had been travelling with the Newcastle People's Chorus on their brief tour in the British Isles. Just before he died, John had remarked as they came off stage after a concert:

Life doesn't get any better than this!
That sounds like a good way to go.

John was in his seventies, and familiar to many in the folk scene as a raconteur and for his craftsmanship - making dulcimers, guitars, cabinets. He lived at Shortland with his wife Joan. His daughter Vicki and her husband, Bill Wiseman, are also known in the folk scene.

There is to be a memorial service for John Day:

11.15am Thursday 20 July
Broadmeadow Chapel
27 Belford Street
Broadmeadow NSW
