Friday Forum. 'Phil Ochs: There But for Fortune.' Documentary film (97 minutes) on legendary singer/songwriter & political activist from the 1960s, Phil Ochs, by award winning director, Kenneth Bowser. The forum will feature a special video introduction to the film for the NSW Teachers Federation by Phil’s sister, Sonny Ochs. His song, 'I Ain’t Marching Anymore' became an anthem of the anti-war movement. Archival footage of Ochs, interviews with contemporary singers, clips which provide the context for so many of Phil’s songs: the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War, the infamous 'police riot' at the 1968 Chicago Democratic Convention, & the assassinations of John & Robert Kennedy & Martin Luther King. Teachers Federation Auditorium, 37 Reservoir St, Surry Hills. 5.30-7pm. Join us from 5.30pm for drinks & nibbles. RSVP by Monday 30 July to the library, 9217 2113, Fax 9217 2481.
