Heritage Railway Ball
Parramatta Town Hall, Sat 9th April 2005

By Don Richmond
Posted Monday, March 14, 2005

Come help us link the past with the present and dance the night away to the strains of the famous Heritage Ensemble, with music specially selected representing railway themes. The music repertoire will also include such delights as The Sydney Railway Waltz, a composition by W H Paling prepared expressly for the occasion of the official opening of the first rail in NSW, in 1855, which ran from Sydney to Parramatta.

The dance programme is drawn from railway Ball Programmes over the years and will also feature the winning entrant of this year's dance competition.

Supper will be served and feature some special delicacies of the day. Drinks (non-alcoholic) will be available throughout the night. Dress in colonial splendour, representing your favourite 19th century fashion.

As the very first Sydney Railway Ball advertised in 1855,

It is particularly requested that applications be made early to enable the stewards to conclude arrangements in due time. (Sydney Morning Herald, c1855)
