Bush Music Club Friday Night Session - The Romantics
8-10pm, Friday 5th March, 2010

“The Romantics” – We’ve been singing a lot about the tough times out in the Bush. Maybe we need to give some time to the singers who saw the good things about the Bush … or fancied a good sort out there!...

Back in the bad old days, we would have said: "Ladies bring a plate - Gents bring a bottle" ... but we know better these days. Just for starters - we want something edible on the plate ... and a decent drop in the bottle!

Cost: $5

Enquiries: Bob 9569 7244

Dennis O'Reilly

My name is Dennis O'Reilly
From Dublin town I came
For to sail this world all over
I sailed the Australian main
With my pack upon my shoulder
And a blackthorn in my hand
For to travel the bushes of Australia
Like a trueborn Irishman

When I arrived in Melbourne town
The girls all jumped with joy
Saying one unto another
Here comes my Irish boy
With his pack upon his shoulder
And a blackthorn in his hand
For to travel the bushes of Australia
Like a trueborn Irishman

Oh, daughter dearest daughter
What do you intend to do
To fall in love with an Irishman
A man you never knew
Oh mother dearest mother
I'll do the best I can
I'll travel the bushes of Australia
With my trueborn Irishman

With my pack upon my shoulder
And my blackthorn in my hand,
I'll travel the bushes of Australia
Like a trueborn Irishman.

NB: There will be no April Beer & Cheese Night ... it being Easter Friday (and most of us being down in Canberra for the National Folk Festival)!
